Great Free Strategy Games
Clash of Legends offers free and fully automated, turn based multiplayer games that have strong elements from war games with an interesting economic side to it and some RPG elements added to the mix. The main available scenarios include 300 of Sparta, Tolkien’s War of Orcs and Dwarves and Game of Thrones.
Another way of explaining it, is that Clash of Legends is a computer moderated, turn based multiplayer game similar to a board game.
The general mechanics are quite simple: each player receives their turn result with all available information included in it. You can then spend some time thinking and communicating with your allies (if any), before inputing your commands and sending them to the Judge program. The Judge will process all commands according to the scenario's turn sequencing and then distribute the results automatically. Turns continue until a winner is declared or the time limit for the scenario has being reached.
The goal is that you should spend 10-20 minutes per week preparing you commands, after completing an initial learning curve. Some players prefer to play games with turns that run more frequently than weekly, but we do not recommend it for beginners.
An easy to use client program (called Counselor) helps both new and experienced players to input orders and to leverage knowledge. From the Counselor, all available information can be accessed so that you can review your generals and wizards. You can check upon your assassins and diplomats and also your enemies' characters if they are double agents.
An easy to view map will help you see all theatre of operations at a glance. The Counselor allows you to review the information and input your commands at your own pace - after all we are all busy people and this game fits in easily around a modern lifestyle.
The game is very stable, has been translated into English and has been running weekly since 2006. It is far from finished, but we are past the initial beta and we are always looking for more players.
